Science Council welcomes next chief executive

Helen Gordon, a trained nurse and former chief executive of the Hillingdon Hospital, has taken the reins at the Science Council.

Gordon, who has held a number of clinical, managerial and leadership positions in NHS hospitals, started her new role at the professional scientific body on 4 February. She took over from Belinda Phipps, who led the organisation between 2015 and February 2018.

Her CV includes positions such as chief executive of the Hillingdon Hospital and, more recently, chief executive at Queen Mary’s Sidcup NHS Trust in London. Between 2005 and 2018, Gordon led the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the Royal Society of Medicine. She is also a council member of the University of Reading and chair of the alumni and development board at Henley Business School.
