‘Multimillion-pound prize’ will be awarded to five winners per year over the next decade

The Duke of Cambridge has announced a “multimillion-pound” environmental prize as part of “a decade of action to repair the Earth”.

The Earthshot Prize will be awarded to five winners per year over 10 years, with the aim of producing at least 50 solutions to environmental challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss by 2030. The name is based on the increasingly popular concept of Moonshots—extremely ambitious projects inspired by the success of the efforts leading to the 1969 moon landing.
