Academic calls for gender charter for the publishing industry

Laura Fogg-Rogers says structural barriers in peer review are harming female researchers

The publishing sector should consider implementing its own version of the Athena SWAN gender equality charter to boost the number of women authors and peer reviewers, an academic has suggested.

Established by the Equality Challenge Unit in 2005, the Athena SWAN scheme awards universities bronze, silver and gold rankings for their gender equality policies.
