Combined physics-maths programme to inspire aspiring teachers

Some 32 universities are to train their physics and engineering graduates in teaching the combination of physics and mathematics.

The pilot programme was designed to address a shortage of specialist physics teachers in English schools. The Institute of Physics has estimated that more than 1,000 new physics teachers are needed every year for over a decade to overcome a “historical shortage”.
