Wellcome goes digital to solve rights issues

The Wellcome Trust is working to make around 1,700 books from its collection available online for researchers.

The collection is made up of books relating to the history of modern genetics published between 1850 and 1990 from 53 different countries. Because most are out of print but still in copyright, Wellcome says researchers have difficulty in tracing rights holders to seek their permission to use the books.
