IAP, a network of 105 science academies, has released a call for action on population and consumption ahead of the United Nations Rio+20 conference on sustainable development in Brazil.
The statement warns that consumption patterns in parts of the world are no longer sustainable and says that population and consumption determine the rates at which natural resources are exploited.
