RSC seeks new solution to old conundrum

The Royal Society of Chemistry is offering a £1,000 prize to anyone who can answer a question that has puzzled leading thinkers for more than 2,000 years – why does hot water freeze faster than cold?

The society invites individuals or teams to produce the best and most creative explanation of the phenomenon, known today as the Mpemba effect.
