Chemistry Nobel Laureate wins Copley medal

Chemist John Walker, Nobel Laureate and director of the Medical Research Council’s Mitochondrial Biology Unit, has won the Royal Society’s 2012 Copley medal.

Walker, who shared the chemistry Nobel in 1997 with US biochemist Paul D. Boyer, is recognised for his work on understanding the synthesis of ATP in mitochondria, which are the power engines in cells.
