Geologists criticise ‘unhelpful’ remarks from pensions secretary Iain Duncan Smith

The Geological Society has criticised work and pensions secretary Ian Duncan Smith’s comments in which he suggested that geologists are less important than staff who stack supermarket shelves.

Duncan Smith made the remarks following news that unemployed Birmingham university geology graduate Cait Reilly had won her case against the government arguing that an unpaid work placement at Poundland as a condition of her benefits is unlawful.
