Welsh universities are “punching over their weight”, despite relative underfunding, according to the Learned Society of Wales.
In a report prepared for the society and published on 12 February, Robin Williams, a council member of the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, says that “contrary to popular belief, the quality of research in [Welsh] universities ranks highly by national and international standards”. This is in terms of publications, publication impact, international citations and value for money, he writes.
