The Wellcome Trust has awarded £1.3 million to fund six science and technology galleries at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
The galleries will focus on biomedical science, including: the science that helped to create Dolly, the first-ever cloned sheep; along with pharmaceutical development and prosthetics technology. A scientific advisory panel is providing guidance on the content of the galleries and includes John Savill, chief executive of the Medical Research Council.
The funding forms part of a £14.1m project that will create a total of 10 galleries at the museum. The additional galleries will increase display space for the museum’s collection of science, technology, art, design and fashion objects. Other funders include the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Scottish government.
