‘Influential’ Wellcome Trust needs fossil fuel investments, claims Farrar

Jeremy Farrar has said the Wellcome Trust uses its investments in fossil fuel companies to encourage them to meet their environmental responsibilities.

In the face of continuing pressure from The Guardian’s climate change campaign, Keep it in the Ground, Farrar reiterated his assertion that the trust should not sell its shares in oil and gas companies.

However, in a blog post on 15 April,the trust’s director also said that evidence could not be provided for the efficacy of this approach because of the confidential nature of discussions with company boards.
