IOP to battle for science budget

The Institute of Physics has stated its commitment to “making the case for science” as the Conservative government prepares to set the UK science budget in July.

In a statement on 28 May, the day after the state opening of parliament and the Queen’s Speech, Alex Connor, the senior policy manager at the IOP, said that the forthcoming months were critical for the future of science in the UK.

Connor said that a £1-billion real-terms reduction in government science spending had been made under the coalition government, adding that a ”strong commitment to increasing investment through the science budget over the next period is essential if the UK is to keep pace with its international competitors”.
