Wellcome backs plans for health and social care research

The Wellcome Trust has said that it warmly welcomes the draft policy framework for health and social care research put out for consultation by the UK Health Research Authority in March.

In its response to the draft framework, the trust said that it welcomed the draft framework’s ambitious commitments and UK-wide approach, as well as its clear delineation of responsibilities. 

The commitments recognise the importance of avoiding the financial and opportunity costs associated with delays to research, the trust said, while the UK-wide scope will be “crucial to deliver a competitive environment for health research”. However, the legal status of the document for people and organisations outside the UK should be clarified..
