Incoming IOP president aims to tackle gender imbalance

Roy Sambles, president-elect of the Institute of Physics, has said that one of his personal priorities for his term of office will be to increase the numbers of women in the field.

Writing for the Campaign for Science and Engineering on 18 June, Sambles said that the IOP already does a lot of work to address the gender imbalance in physics, but that he will be looking to take this further by, for example, developing the institute’s engagement with teachers.

“I want us to create more time to engage with them properly, to show them that they’re valuable,” Sambles said.
