Biologists call for science-friendly migration system

The Royal Society of Biology is encouraging political parties to commit to a migration policy that serves the interests of the research and innovation system.

Letters, dated 31 May and released on 2 June, highlight the role of the UK’s research base as a generator of prosperity and international competitiveness, and warn that there is a “very real” risk of “serious decline”.

“Government must address how to attract and retain globally leading science talent in the UK. Key to this challenge is an environment that welcomes and accommodates an international mobile workforce, supports international collaboration and provides and encourages investment in R&D,” the letter says.
