Jeremy Farrar has identified the conditions he says are needed for UK science to flourish, as formal negotiations on the terms of the country leaving the European Union get underway.
As Brexit talks began in Brussels on 19 June, and with uncertainty looming over whether a deal will be struck within two years, Farrar made three recommendations to maintain the UK’s position in the science sphere.
In an announcement and in an article in The Times, both published on 20 June, he listed the first priority as creating “harmonised” regulation in medicines and data protection.
