Royal Medal awarded to couple studying Darwin’s finches

Peter and Rosemary Grant, who studied the ecology and evolution of finches on the Galápagos islands for almost four decades, are among this year’s Royal Society medal winners.

The annual Royal Society awards, announced on 18 July, are given to “exceptional researchers who make outstanding contributions to science”.

This year there were 19 recipients of the 17 medals and awards, including Peter and Rosemary Grant of Princeton University, who won the prestigious Royal Medal given on behalf of the Queen.
