The Wellcome Trust has revised its policy on sharing research data so that more Wellcome-funded research outputs are made freely available in a timely and responsible way.

Open-access and data-sharing requirements have formed a part of Wellcome funding conditions since 2007. Applicants have been asked to submit an output management plan detailing how their data are likely to benefit other researchers and research areas.

As part of the existing policy, 80 per cent of Wellcome-funded research papers are available on open-access platforms.
