Medical statistician Deborah Ashby is to replace David Spiegelhalter as president of the Royal Statistical Society at the end of 2018.
Ashby, who is professor of medical statistics and clinical trials at Imperial College London, jointly directs the college’s clinical trials unit and serves as deputy head of its school of public health.
She was picked from a list of candidates proposed by fellows of the society. Her nomination, endorsed by the society’s governing body earlier this year, was uncontested, the Royal Statistical Society said in a statement on 2 August.
