Shamit Saggar, a political scientist from the University of Essex, has been appointed to lead the Academy of Social Sciences’ Campaign for Social Science.
Saggar, who is the university’s pro vice-chancellor for research and professor of political science and public policy, will take up the role of chairman on 1 October.
He has held academic appointments at universities in the UK, the United States and Canada and served as a senior adviser to former prime minister Tony Blair. He was appointed CBE for services to social science and public policy earlier this year.
