Academy to investigate the future of business

The British Academy is to explore the evolving role of companies in society under a three-year research programme entitled The Future of the Corporation.

The £1.5-million programme will be funded by a consortium that includes businesses, charities, foundations and individuals, the academy announced on 28 September. 

It aims to explore the growing influence of artificial intelligence and virtual reality technologies in reshaping the world of work, the academy said. “The gig economy is disrupting the relationships between employer and employee, and the idea of shareholder value as the main measure of business success is under increasing scrutiny.“
