Wikipedia founder honoured by British Academy

Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, and Claudia Hammond, a psychologist and radio presenter, are to receive British Academy medals for their services to academia.

Five President’s Medals will be awarded at a ceremony on 27 September to recognise contributions to the arts, humanities and social sciences.

Hammond will receive a President’s Medal for improving public understanding of psychology through broadcasting and writing, and Wales for facilitating the spread of information through Wikipedia.
