Engineers launch £15m scheme to improve safety

The Royal Academy of Engineering has announced a £15-million partnership with the Lloyd’s Register Foundation to address challenges in engineering safety.

The partnership will initially focus on three topics: safer complex industrial and engineered systems; enhanced safety in decommissioning and end of engineering life; and developing engineering skills where they are most needed. It may also result in revised codes of conduct and changes in the approach to educating engineers.

Funding will be allocated over five years to examine the most pressing safety problems, identify best practice and develop practical solutions.
