The UK prime minister has listened to the concerns of the UK’s scientific community about Brexit but must now provide more clarity over the country’s future relationship with the European Union, the president of the Royal Society has said.

Theresa May has consistently spoken of the importance of getting a good deal for science and there is every indication that the rest of Europe also wants a good deal, Venki Ramakrishnan told society fellows during his third Anniversary Day address on 30 November.

However, while acknowledging that the current deal would ensure “little change” during the transition period, he said there was still “no real clarity” about what will happen over the longer term.
