The Institute of Physics will strengthen its support for members in the early stages of their careers with the launch of a special interest group, it has announced.
The group will provide a forum for early-career physicists from within and beyond academia to network, collaborate and receive mentoring support, the institute said in a statement on 12 April. It will publish a newspaper, hold events and sponsor a prize.
It will also enable members to influence external bodies such as the research councils, according to Robert Thompson, an electrical engineer at University College London. Thompson will co-chair the group with Joe Beaver of Rolls-Royce, who sits on the institute’s science and innovation committee.
