Wellcome gives £9.4m for major genome mapping project

Ten institutions share money to start mapping genomes of all life on British Isles

The Wellcome Trust has announced it will support 10 institutions with £9.4 million to launch the first phase of sequencing all the species on the British Isles.

The so-called Darwin Tree of Life Project will see teams collect and barcode around 8,000 key British species, and deliver high-quality genomes of 2,000 species.
