Wellcome increases spending on science and innovation

   

Charity spent £1.13bn in past year, including £839m on science and £130m on innovation

The Wellcome Trust has increased its expenditure in the past year, but warned of “challenging times ahead”.

According to the charity’s annual report, published on 18 December, the Wellcome Trust spent £1.13 billion on charitable activities in 2019, in the 12 months up to October 2019. This included £839m on science; £130m on innovations; £96m on culture and society; and £66m on priority areas. Spending on science and innovations were at the highest level in five years.
