Wellcome Trust promises to consult widely on science review

The UK’s largest charitable research funder has pledged to be outward-looking in its review of how it funds science.

Jim Smith, director of the Wellcome Trust’s review of science funding, provided further details on 26 February of how the charity plans to undertake the exercise, which was first announced in November.

Writing in a blog post, Smith said the trust had appointed a team of strategy consultants to help develop its approach to the review. Experts from all over the world are expected to contribute to the exercise, Smith said, adding that these external opinions from people such as philanthropists, investors and biomedical scientists would be the initial focus.
