The Academy of Medical Sciences’ new executive director will be Simon Denegri, the National Institute for Health Research’s current director for patients, carers and the public.
Denegri will replace Helen Munn, who announced in February that she was stepping down after more than a decade at the helm of the medical academy. Denegri has a long history of working within public health and medical research. Prior to his appointment at the NIHR, he was chief executive of the Association of Medical Research Charities. He has also worked at the Royal College of Physicians of London and the Alzheimer’s Society.
The academy’s president Robert Lechler said that Denegri was joining the academy at a “strategically significant time” and that he would be “right at the heart of our vital political influencing and strategic leadership”.
