The drive for research excellence is coming at the cost of researchers’ mental health, the UK’s largest charitable funder of research has said.
In an opinion piece published on 10 September, Wellcome director Jeremy Farrar said that change was urgently needed.
“The relentless drive for research excellence has created a culture in modern science that cares exclusively about what is achieved and not about how it is achieved,” he said.
