Report from Academy of Medical Sciences identifies ‘widening gap’ between the NHS and universities
Health research in the UK must be protected and strengthened if the country is to remain globally competitive in the life sciences, according to the Academy of Medical Sciences.
In a report published on 8 January, the academy says that the National Health Service staff are finding it increasingly difficult to make time for research despite evidence that such research has contributed to major advances in patient care, as well as financial benefits to the NHS and to the economy as a whole.
