Simulated EU-UK negotiation sets out challenges to agreement over post-Brexit deal

A “simulated negotiation” exploring how the UK might join future European Union research programmes has found that there is a “significant risk” of British researchers missing the start of Horizon Europe, the next EU Framework funding scheme.

Run by the Wellcome Trust and the Brussels-based think tank Bruegel, the simulation set up teams of academics and policy experts representing UK and EU negotiators. These teams then played out how a negotiation over UK access to EU research schemes might play out.
