Academy concerned about decline in languages at GCSE

                    

As Royal Society celebrates continuing popularity of science subjects

The British Academy has said more work is needed to reverse the drop in language learning following a continued decline in the number of students taking up German and Spanish at GCSE level.

According to the 2022 GCSE results published on 25 August, around 36,300 students studied German, a decrease of 17 per cent since 2019, when almost 42,800 students took the exam.
