Wellcome appoints director of infectious disease

TB expert Alexander Pym joins funder as World Health Organization pushes for new TB vaccines

The UK charitable health research funder Wellcome has appointed TB expert Alexander Pym as its permanent director of infectious disease.

From March, Pym will lead the infectious disease strand of Wellcome’s work, which is one of three priority areas chosen under the funder’s new strategy. Wellcome has committed to spending £16 billion across its portfolio over the next decade and is increasingly taking a more global approach.
