Delight as Treasury supports new national academy for mathematics

               

Seed funding of £6 million available to establish academy providing ‘authoritative voice’ for field

Government support for the creation of a national academy focused on mathematical sciences has been welcomed by organisations developing plans for such an institution.

The announcement of support came as part of the chancellor Jeremy Hunt’s autumn statement yesterday. The Treasury said the government was making “additional substantive investment in UK R&D this financial year” including “support to establish a national academy focused on mathematical sciences”.
