UK firm wins climate change satellite contract

A UK company, Astrium UK, has been chosen by the European Space Agency to play a key role in a project to build a satellite for monitoring climate change from space.

The £40 million Sentinel 5 Precursor satellite forms part of the European Union’s Global Monitoring for Environment and Security programme, an Earth-observation project intended to provide data on the planet’s health. The satellite will monitor the composition of the Earth’s atmosphere from 2015.
