Lynne Brindley, chief executive, British Library

The British Library, which estimates that orphaned work makes up some 40 per cent of its collection, says: “The Library is pleased that the Government has accepted Professor Hargreaves’ recommendations, including those relating to … the digitisation of orphan works, text and data mining, and digital preservation that will have an immediate benefit for research, life-long learning and teaching. We now look forward to working with the government to enact the necessary legislation, and we hope that these commitments will be implemented over the course of this parliament,” she added.
