The Royal Academy of Engineering has announced three finalists for its 2015 MacRobert award, which recognises the successful development of innovative engineering ideas in the UK.
The three finalists are: Artemis Intelligent Power, which has combined digital control with hydraulic mechanisms to improve the energy generation and reliability of wind turbines; Endomag, which has developed a way of diagnosing breast cancer that avoids the use of radioactive tracers; and Victrex, which has developed ultra-thin plastics with applications in areas such as consumer electronics and transport.
The judging panel for the award is being headed by Sue Ion, chairwoman of the Nuclear Innovation Advisory Board.
