Airbus admits keeping an eye on US space market

Airbus, the world’s second largest space company after Boeing, is considering making a substantial investment to enter the United States’ space market.

The move, however, will not happen in the immediate future, the managing director of the company’s UK defence and space arm Colin Paynter has said. Paynter was speaking at the opening, plenary session of the UK Space Conference, a three-day biannual event taking place in Manchester from 30 May to 1 June.

Asked about Airbus’s plans to increase its space-sector presence in the US and China, he replied that although the company’s aircraft division had many international collaborations, including in China, more time and effort would be needed to replicate that in space systems.
