Nesta calls for ‘pilot’ policies

Governments should have the courage to embrace small-scale experiments before rolling out new, more innovative policies, innovation agency Nesta has said.

Albert Bravo-Biosca, director of Nesta’s Innovation Growth Lab, said that governments and companies should not fear policy experimentation. “Sometimes it is difficult to overcome internal reluctance in organisations and businesses to challenge what they are doing,” he said. “There are many ways of learning from policy experiments, especially randomised controlled trials, which have not been used very much in the world of innovation and entrepreneurship policy.”

Bravo-Biosca was speaking at Nesta’s annual Innovation Growth Lab, which this year took place in Barcelona on 13 and 14 June.
