The Precision Medicine Catapult centre, which was set up to support the personalised medicine industry, is to close.

The Catapult’s board will shut the precision medicine centre at St John’s Innovation Park in Cambridge and transfer part of its scientific work to the existing Medicines Discovery Catapult, based at Alderley Park in Cheshire. The latter will now cover medicines, diagnostics, biomarkers, and early-stage clinical trial support.

The closure was announced on 26 June by Innovate UK—the agency that funds the 11-strong catapult network—and is expected to take place soon. It comes as the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy begins an independent review of the entire catapult network’s policy, funding model and industry focus.
