Standards for AI could be born in the UK

The UK has all the infrastructure needed to become the country that sets the global gold standard for artificial intelligence ethics and governance, according to a report.

Britain has “considerable prospects” of becoming an international leader in the development of the ethics, governance and safety framework for AI, as well as in its application to healthcare and fintech, the Big Innovation Centre think tank and the data company Deep Knowledge Analytics said.

In a report published on 24 October, the two organisations analysed all publicly available data on the AI industry in the UK, including profiles of 1,000 companies, 600 investors, 80 influencers, 35 technology hubs and research institutes as well as multiple private and government entities.
