Innovate UK will spend up to £72 million on a research hub to introduce digital and manufacturing innovations for use in the construction industry.

The hub will bring together industry and academics to boost the sector’s productivity. Its focus will be to create better-performing buildings and increase the industry-wide adoption of digital and manufacturing technologies. The funding for the hub, announced on 26 March, comes from the government’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

According to a statement from Innovate UK, the project aims to: help speed up the construction of buildings to half the time taken today; reduce building costs by a third; and halve the lifetime carbon footprint of the buildings.
