The government has given a £8 million boost to its pilot fund geared towards commercialising university research.
The Innovation to Commercialisation of University Research pilot programme, established in 2014 and run by the innovation agency Innovate UK, will support an additional 48 research teams with this extra funding from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Two more institutions, the University of Warwick and Queen’s University Belfast, will join the programme, the government said in its announcement on 11 April. The fund’s focus is to train early-career researchers in business skills and commercialising their research.
