CBI calls for ‘innovation from from St Austell to St Andrews’

Business group wants roadmap to increased R&D activity across the UK

The Confederation of British Industry has called on the next government to set out “a roadmap for raising UK R&D activity within its first year of office”, especially focusing on areas outside the traditional golden triangle of Oxford, Cambridge and London.

In a report published on 3 December, called Don’t wait, innovate: Stepping up R&D, from St Austell to St Andrews, the CBI says such plans should include “measures to ramp up public funding support for Innovate UK; drive innovation through Government procurement; and push innovation diffusion throughout the UK economy”.
