The Ministry of Defence has launched a £2-million competition to tackle the threat of drones after two UK airports were brought to a standstill in December and January due to sightings of the unmanned aerial vehicles.
Run by the Defence and Security Accelerator, the ministry’s innovation hub, the competition will support the development of new technologies capable of detecting, tracking, identifying and defeating drones, the MoD said in a statement on 9 April.
Phase one is now open with a budget of at least £800,000 for multiple nine-month pilot projects and a closing date of 28 May.
