Small companies are concerned about the emphasis Innovate UK is placing on its Smart grants, which fund businesses in any field, arguing that they may struggle to win funding from the agency as a result.
Pitched as a programme for “disruptive or game-changing ideas” from any area, Smart is Innovate’s open programme, distinct from its subject-specific schemes that focus on emerging and enabling technology, health and life sciences, infrastructure systems and manufacturing and materials.
