Institute set up to advise on climate finance appoints chief

London’s Green Finance Institute is set to launch in July with the founder and chair of Barclays’ Green Banking Council at its helm.

Rhian-Mari Thomas, global head of green banking at Barclays, has been appointed chief executive of the Green Finance Institute, the Green Finance Initiative said on 14 May.

The creation of the institute was announced in June 2018, following the privatisation of the Green Investment Bank. But unlike the bank, which financed sustainable projects, the institution will advise government and investors about climate finance and steer capital towards high-risk green projects in the UK and overseas.
