Cell and gene therapy UK trials ‘almost doubled’ in 2019

  

Database shows that increasing numbers of commercial organisations are sponsoring such trials in the country

Clinical trials in the field of cell and gene therapy in the UK have almost doubled in 2019, with the country now accounting for 12 per cent of studies worldwide.

There were 127 ongoing such clinical trials in the UK in December 2019, which is around a 45 per cent increase compared with 2018, according to data from the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult’s UK advanced therapies medicinal products database published on 15 January.
